​​How Will the Latest Multi-Function Tailgates Last Over Time?​ 

You may have noticed that there is a growth in multi-functional tailgates on today’s pickup trucks. Starting with the Honda Ridgeline, the ability to open up a tailgate has changed in various ways. Tailgates are no longer necessarily a simple drop-down affair but can now swing to the sides or contort themselves in different ways, all in the name of flexibility.

Every time you are about to use your pickup truck, check every tailgate function. That starts with using the handle to lower the tailgate completely as originally intended. Test the operation from the key fob, the button on the dashboard, or any release function. Then, you should check for all alternative operations from side openings to split gates.  

With every operation, check for how each function moves, whether there are some uneven gaps between panels and subpanels, if there is any damage to the tailgate itself – including dents, loose trim and step wear. Always check for rusting parts. When looking at electrical operations, look for damaged wiring and camera operation. Always make sure that the tailgate still clears the hitch when you are connecting your trailer to your pickup truck.
