Consumer Reports Names The Most Reliable Trucks
Owning a truck these days has become a rite of passage. More and more buyers are turning away from crossovers and SUVs and jumping into a pickup truck. Why? There are so many of them, and they are typically pretty reliable. People love bigger vehicles that make them feel safe and insulated from the outside world. With so many options out there, though, it’s tough to know exactly what to look for and buy.

The Most Reliable Brands of Trucks
Consumer Reports has recently put out its list of the most reliable trucks on the market currently, with Ford, Honda, and Jeep doing quite well in the company’s reliability scores. Each score is on a scale of 0-100 with 50 being the industry median.
Most Reliable Mid-Size Trucks
With reliability scores of 65 and 59 out of 100, the best mid-size trucks were the Ford Ranger, Ford Maverick, and Honda Ridgeline. The Jeep Gladiator scored a 50 on the scale, beating out the Hyundai Santa Cruz with 34. The Santa Fe’s score was much higher than the 27 and 29 for the Nissan Frontier and Toyota Tacoma, respectively, as well as the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon, which only got 15 points out of a possible 100.

Most Reliable Full-Size Trucks
In the full-size truck category, the highest score was the Ford F-150 with 40 points, while the next highest score was the Chevy Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 with 39. The Ram 1500 scored just a tad worse at 37, while the Toyota Tundra scored the lowest at 32.

Most Reliable EV Trucks
EV trucks didn’t do so hot with the Silverado EV scoring the highest with 30 reliability points. Next on the list was the F-150 Lightning with 28, and then the Tesla Cybertruck and Rivian R1T with 27 and 20 points. The F-150 Hybrid scored the lowest of all trucks, though, with only 7 points.

What Does This Mean?
What does this tell us about reliability, though? Well, it’s not a perfect science, as you can talk to five people who have the same truck who’ll tell you they’ve never had a single problem, and then turn around and talk to five other people who swear they’ll never buy this brand or that brand because of reliability issues they had. That being said, one thing that can be taken from this is the idea that smaller trucks may be more reliable because of their emphasis on having a single engine per truck. Full-size pickups typically have multiple powertrain options, which means the trucks have to be engineered to work with multiple engines, or use slightly different parts for one powertrain compared to another.
