Data shows that owners are keeping their cars for more than eight years, and if you drive an average of 15,000 miles per year, that means you’ll end up putting over 120,000 miles on your car. This begs the question, what cars can you buy that will easily and reliably do a couple hundred thousand miles without issue? iSeeCars took a look at 174 million cars to see which brands and vehicles have the highest percentage of reaching 250,000 miles.

How The Data is Listed 

The data was broken up into the top 25 cars, SUVs, and trucks that normal car buyers get as a family or work vehicle, plus the top 10 overall brands. They further break it down into the best 19 trucks, and the best 21 SUVs only. 

Toyota Is the Top Brand 

In the company’s study, Toyota took the top spot with the most cars that can reach 250,000 miles with 10 different models of the 25 that they ranked. Most of the vehicles on the list are also SUVs and trucks, with only seven sedans making the list.  

The Highest Ranked Cars Are… 

The top car of all with a 39.1% chance of reaching 250,000 miles was the Toyota Sequioa. That shouldn’t come as a surprise as it is a vehicle that’s popular with families and off-road enthusiasts alike. The main reasons are its robust engine, 4WD, towing capabilities, and interior quality. After that was the Toyota 4Runner at 32.9%. Again, another vehicle that is popular with off-roaders.  

The Top 10 is Loaded with Toyota and Lexus Models 

The top 10 standard vehicles had nine Toyota and Lexus models taking the first nine spots, and the Honda Pilot taking the 10th position. After the previously mentioned 4Runner, it goes Toyota Highlander Hybrid, Tundra, Lexus IS, Tacoma, Toyota Avalon, Lexus GX, and the Lexus RX Hybrid. Every one of those vehicles scored above 14%, with most of the Toyota models being above 25%.  

Trucks Are Pretty Reliable, Too 

There are a number of mid-size and full-size trucks that show up on the list, with the top non-heavy duty one being the Toyota Tundra with a 30% likelihood of hitting 250,000. Next was the Toyota Tacoma at 25.3%, the Honda Ridgeline at 14.7%, Chevrolet Silverado with a 12.9% possibility, GMC Sierra at 10.8%, Nissan Titan at 9.9%, GMC Canyon and Chevrolet Colorado at 8.4 and 7-percent, respectively, and the Ford F-150 down at 5.9%. The Nissan Frontier and Ram 1500 rounding out the pack at 5% and 3.5%.
